Someone Told Me It’s All Happening …

… at the zoo! That’s where we decided to go today (Friday, July 4). Reykjavík’s zoo is unusual since its animals are all from Iceland. No lions, elephants or tigers. Just horses, sheep, goats. Of course, you’ll find artic foxes and reindeer, but nothing that you won’t find here. For example, the magpie duck:

When we enter the zoo, we see the Icelandic horses. Cathy greets the colt.

Here’s the whole family:

The artic fox is not one you’d normally see in the wild. Even here, it’s hard to see, but is coaxed out by food

The reindeer relax

A closeup

A gyrfalcon:

There are chickens all around

While we are sitting down, this guy and his harem descend on us

A photo op – made of horseshoes

Seals frolic

This poor little guy just wants to rest, but his parents keep knocking him into the water

The trojan pig

Some bunnies.

Separate the sheep…

From the goats.

There’s also a low tech amusement park included with the price of the zoo, with things like a driving school for young kids, a viking ship, a “ferry” where kids pull themselves across the water. But we were too tired to get any photos here.

After leaving, we passed by the frisbee golf course again. This time, Gail points out the map of the course.

This has been the hottest day since we’ve been in Iceland, almost 60 degrees!
