Arrival in Copenhagen

We left Gothenburg by train on Wednesday, July 23. There wasn’t enough space for both Gail and me to sit by the same track, so I waited by the track across the way.

Seen from the train

When we first got on the train, this couple set across from us. He had just won her that cow at a carnival. We then relocated to a cooler compartment, but we saw them depart the train later.

Interesting building in our Copenhagen neighborhood.

Young satyr drinking wine in Ørstedsparken, a park near where we are staying

Small lake in Ørstedsparken

Hans Cristian Ørsted, Danish chemist and physicist who discovered that electric currents create magnetic fields. He also discovered aluminum. He is surrounded by the 3 fates (you only see 2 from this angle).

The following morning, July 24, we went on a food tour. Here are some of the sights we saw.

Rundetaarn, the round tower

Former department store with Hermes sculpture

Stork fountain

The Caritas well, the oldest fountain in Copenhagen, built in 1608.

We’d never seen a kiosk selling draft beer before.

We had seen before, of course, because wherever you go around the world…

Tomorrow, we’ll be taking a harbor tour of Copenhagen.
