Pentecost in the Park

This day (6/8) was our last day before the cruise, so we decided to visit the City Park, just north of the Hall of Heroes.

We ran into a part of the Pentecost Festival.

We saw gnomes in love

A simple, but beautiful, church, Jaki Chapel

It was hot (near 90), so we stopped to wet our whistle at the Anonymous Bar. From left to right: mango and coconut lemonade, virgin pina colada, strawberry and basil lemonade.

Pony ride anyone?

Some ventured across a narrow “bridge”

Others just pretended to

A circus

Entance to a zoo (at Mount Tabor?)

The elephant house at the zoo

Széchenyi Bath (Thermal Spa). Full, when we strolled by.

We traveled to the park and back by metro. Unfortunately, we don’t have any photos of the metro which was very cool. It had a retro feel. A lot of wood and cool tiles. It’s the oldest underground in Europe. Well, continental Europe. England has an older one. We have now traveled by all 3 pulic transit methods in Budapest: bus, tram and metro.

Senior citizens can ride public transit for free. All senior citizens, regardless of where you’re from, you just need an official ID from your country, proving your age. But, as far as we saw, there was no one watching fares at all. Until we exited at the Park. Then there were two fare inspectors checking for valid tickets. Now for the sad part. We reached into our pocket for our IDs. They didn’t even look at them. They just waved us through!!!
