Brunnenfest

On Saturday, June 21, we took a bus to Partenkirchen to see the Brunnenfest, a celebration of its fountains. But first, we went to the center of Garmisch to view its fountain.

A hotel in Partenkirchen

We got off the bus at Sebastian’s Kirche (church)

We walked down the street towards the festival

We saw that the street was blocked off to the left

Shortly after this, we ran into Sabina, the young woman from Moun10 who had told us about the festival. She was glad to see us there, and told us that the festival was going on not just down the main street, but also on some of the side streets.

Every place on the main street was elaborately done

Gail wonders how much it costs to maintain these storefronts. You can’t just slap a coat of paint over chipped or fading colors.

We don’t have bakeries like this back home.

Me with a lot of revelers in the background.

A hotel and restaurant

Another beautiful building

We reach the end of the main street and start up a side street. There are a lot of beautiful homes, decorated in a lot of elaborate ways like this one.

We finally found exactly what we were looking for: a good German band with fine food and drink

Sample of the music and dancing

We were a tad underdressed

Another fountain

We return to the festivities on the main street

Prost auf ein wundervolles Brunnenfest! (Cheers to a wonderful Brunnunfest!)

Prost auch an dich! (Cheers to you too!)

We return to our apartment too tired to watch the sunset,
