Bus Tour

On Thursday, August 21, we took a Hop On Hop Off bus tour to explore the parts of Edinburgh beyond the City Center. The Dugald Stewart Monument is a memorial to the Scottish philosopher Dugald Stewart.

The Firth of Forth. A firth is a term used primarily in Scotland for a narrow sea inlet, a large bay, or an estuary, often originating from the Old Norse word for “fjord”. These bodies of water are formed at the mouth of a river, with the sea water gradually mixing with freshwater.

Dr Bell’s School. Andrew Bell was a Scottish Anglican priest and educationalist who pioneered the Madras System of Education. This system used students to help each other.

The King’s Gallery, previously known as the Queen’s Gallery, is an art gallery in Edinburgh, Scotland. It forms part of the Palace of Holyroodhouse complex. It was opened in 2002 by Queen Elizabeth II.

The Nelson Monument, a commemorative tower in honour of Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson. The monument was built between 1807 and 1816 to commemorate Nelson’s victory over the French and Spanish fleets at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, and his own death at the same battle.

Founded in the 1120s, St Giles’ Cathedral was the home of the Scottish Reformation. It is Scotland’s National Cathedral, situated at the heart of the Royal Mile.

Having not learned from Tuesday, we returned to our Airbnb at 3:30 PM, during what I now refer to as “school rush hour”. The bus was very late and very crowded. Someone gave Gail her seat as soon as she entered. The cane works wonders. I eventually found a seat as well. A twenty minute bus ride took over an hour. Maybe this time we’ll learn.

Anyway, tomorrow is our wedding anniversary.
