Edinburgh Castle
We went to see a great show on Saturday, August 23, called Out Of the Blue, an acapella group from Oxford. Unfortunately, we didn’t find out until after the performance that they encouraged photos and recordings. Afterwards we went to the restaurant Shish, where we ordered our only food for the day.

On Sunday, August 24, we went to Edinburgh Castle (at top, National Gallery at bottom)

On our way, we saw

Sherlock

Sherlock’s creator was born close to here

St Paul’s and St George’s Church (known colloquially as “Ps and Gs”)

We, of course, took the Royal Mile, where the Fringe Festival was still going strong

As usual, there was a lot of bagpipe playing, this time with accompanying drum
Gail saw a Gordon’s restaurant, but it was Italian, not Scottish

Statue of Alexander the Great & his horse, Bucephalus, at The City Chambers

Me and General Maczek, a WW II hero

Dragons guarding Wardrop’s Court

Views of the city from the Castle

The One O’clock Gun, which fires everyday at one o’clock, but not the day we were there

Next to the gun, is a passageway that leads to the Western Defenses

A sign on the tables below warns of aggressive seagulls. Fortunately, we had no food. Here’s a view with me blocking your view of the city.

Here’s the same view without me.

Still not completely up

View from the top of the castle: the Firth of Forth (the water); the Nelson Monument (the highest building), Balmoral Hotel and Waverly train station. Among others

St Margaret’s Chapel, the oldest part of the castle

The War Memorial (I was disappointed it wasn’t still a church)

Where the crown jewels were kept (too much of a line after walking all those stairs, and Gail had already seen them)

Tomorrow we leave the Royal mile to explore Dean Village
