Exploring Reykjavík
Thursday, June 16, was our first full day in Iceland.
As you know, we love taking a food tour on our first day in a country. One thing we learned about Icelandic food is that it’s pretty heavy with lamb and fish. There are about twice as many sheep as people in the country. Sheep are allowed to run free during the summer months. You’ll see them all over the place. In the pastures. On the mountainsides. In the roads. At the end of the summer, all people in the area go out and gather the sheep.

Or two …

Along the way, we saw some iconic sights, like the rainbow street

And the Hallgrímskirkja

The altar of the Hallgrímskirkja is simple, but beautiful

Half of the church pews face the altar in front; the other half face the organ in back

Another iconic sight, if you’re into RPGs

We loved the murals

And wondered about this sign

Tomorrow, we leave Reykjavík for a day to explore the Golden Circle.
